WHAT'S EATING COLIN KAEPERNICK?
Colin Kaepernick has made the roster for the San Francisco 49ers, but it’s a decision the team will live to regret.
The 49ers quarterback has refused to stand for the national anthem at the team’s preseason games. Kaepernick also wore socks with caricatures of police as pigs during practice.
When asked about his disrespect for the country and law enforcement, Kaepernick said: “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color. … There are bodies in the street and people getting paid leave and getting away with murder.”
Kaepernick has said he plans to continue his antics into the regular season.
If Kaepernick wants to smear police with his reckless language, he can do it on his own time. He doesn’t have the right to do it as an employee of the San Francisco 49ers. But if he really wants to exercise his “rights,” he should keep in mind that his team, police officers and fans can and should exercise theirs, too.
The Santa Clara Police Officer’s Association is threatening its officers may refuse to work future 49ers games at Levi’s Stadium if the organization fails to take action against Kaepernick.
Good. I hope the police association follows through with the threat.
But don’t expect a functioning moral compass from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and most NFL owners. When the Dallas Cowboys wanted to put decals on their helmets to honor the slain officers killed by a Black Lives Matter sympathizer last July, the league wouldn’t allow it. Yet, it let Beyoncé perform her anti-police “Formation” song during last year’s Super Bowl. If the San Francisco 49ers had any guts or decency, the team would have cut this cancer [Kaepernick] during preseason.
Based on my 26 years of counseling individuals and families at my nonprofit, BOND, I’ve discovered that children who don’t have a good relationship with their parents struggle with anger and feel empty. Kaepernick isn’t mad about “black oppression” – he’s angry because his biological parents abandoned him.
Instead of dealing with his personal issues, he’s validated an evil movement (Black Lives Matter) founded on lies and led by radical homosexuals, lesbians, anarchists and communists.
Kaepernick is biracial. His white mother reportedly gave him up for adoption, and his black father left before he was born. Kaepernick was adopted and raised by a white couple.
Kaepernick is empty and unfulfilled because he’s never known the love of his parents – especially his father. No matter how loving and decent his adoptive parents may be, they can never fill this void. I know of well-meaning white parents who adopt black or biracial children, and they provide the best home and education, and in some cases even try to immerse the child in so-called “African-American culture” – thinking this will help get them in touch with their “roots” – but all this does is make the child more insecure.
This is why Kaepernick has gone from a clean-cut Christian when he entered the league to wearing an outsized afro that would make Huey Newton proud.
It reminds me of how Barack Obama turned on his white grandmother and rejected his white side to be accepted by blacks. He joined Jeremiah Wright Jr.’s church, became a “community organizer” and embraced radicals like Black Lives Matter. Like Obama, Kaepernick is defying white society and turning his back on the white parents who raised him, in hopes of being accepted by black militants.
So who radicalized Colin Kaepernick?
Black sociologist and activist Dr. Harry Edwards has served as a consultant to the 49ers for more than 30 years. Kaepernick has said he’s turned to Edwards for advice on race for some time. Edwards was one of the people Kaepernick talked to both before and after his decision not to stand during the national anthem.
“He is evolving through an awakening and (perhaps) really understanding for the first time – given his background – the true depth and scope of the history of anti-black racial hatred and injustice in America,” Edwards said in the San Francisco Chronicle. Edwards added, “His problem is that he hasn’t said enough.”
Edwards has been a radical activist for decades. He worked with Olympic sprinters Tommie Smith and John Carlos before their infamous Black Power salute at the 1968 Olympics.
Then there’s Kaepernick’s girlfriend, Nessa Diab, an ex-MTV DJ who now works on a popular urban radio show in New York City. She’s also a Berkeley graduate who is three years older than Kaepernick.
According to reports, the pair began dating in July of 2015, and soon after that Kaepernick’s social media activity began to reflect the Black Lives Matter and Muslim activism of Diab.
Clearly, Edwards, Diab and no doubt others have been negative influences on Kaepernick.
Kaepernick should not be allowed to bring his political protest into the game; people buy their tickets to be entertained with their families. If his team’s owners refuse to stop him, then fans should exercise their right to stop supporting Colin Kaepernick and the San Francisco 49ers.
